First 10K DONE!

Well it's Thursday. I ran my first 10K on Sunday. It was a struggle, but I did it. 1 hour and 18 minutes. I think is a great time for my first one. I also ran a 5K the night before. It was for an extra medal. If you ran both nights. If you haven't heard about the Rock 'n' Roll marathon series, check it out! My husband is now obsessed with the idea of earning the Hall of Fame medal which requires you to run 15 half or full marathons in a year! So onward we run! It should be fun....expensive, but fun.
Just for fun, here are some not so flattering pics of me pre-race and post-race....what a difference 6.2 miles make!

All in all I feel really good about the weekend and I am looking forward to doing it again. And it helps when you get to hang up the medals!

A little more about me

I live in a small town in Arizona. Our weather ranges from 60 degrees in the winter to over 110 degrees in the summer. In the summer months it is very hard to train because guess what? Even at 4:30 AM it is still 90 degrees.
I trained and ran a 5k a little over 6 years ago. I used the app "C25K." If anyone reading this is thinking they want to run a 5k and have not run much in your life I highly recommend this app. It is really helpful to keep from hurting yourself when you are just starting out.
Anyway back to this year. For some reason in July (of all times, why the height of summer?) I decided I wanted to get back into running. So I grabbed my old running shoes, set my alarm for 5:30 AM and out I went. I was back on the C25K track. Slow and steady.
Shortly after my step son, who has run a few marathons invited my husband and I to run with him in Las Vegas at the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon. They have a 5k, 10k, half marathon, and full marathon. So I agreed to run the 5k since I would have plenty of time to train. A few weeks in my husband and I decided to register for the run so we would be committed. When we did, I saw the medal that runners receive for running both the 5k on Saturday and a second run on Sunday (10k, 1/2, or full) I decided to run both!
Here I am, 14 days away from running my second 5k and my first 10k. I have found that for me, if I have a goal it makes it easier to stay committed to getting out there every other day. So I made the goal of Boston in 2023.

Starting out on this journey

I decided to start a blog. Why? There are probably a billion running blogs out there. I don't really have a reason other than to document my journey for my self. If you happen to gain some insight, or learn something or if I just motivate you to do something, then this blog will have been even more than I could have ever imagined.

I am a 39 YO female, who for what ever reason decided a few months ago that I would set a goal to run the Boston Marathon for my 45th birthday. Why Boston? Why my 45th? Well it just so happens that the Boston Marathon is always run on or around April 18th every year, and well, that is my birthday. Why 45? Well I'm going to need some time to train and 45 was a nice round, albeit odd, number....so off I go.....
